A Hindu doctor with dementia and a Muslim auto rickshaw driver form an unlikely friendship as they cross India in search of the doctor’s childhood home.
As a child, Dr. Amit Singh (Ram Gopal Bajaj) survived the British partition of India. Since then, he has been trying to forget the horrors of his past – his family murdered by Muslims and the personal guilt he feels for the death of his younger brother. Now, with the onset of dementia and his NRI son (Samir Kochhar) coming from America to put him in an old age home, Amit must return to his childhood home and confront the memories he has been trying to forget before he loses his chance. While running from his son, Amit meets Salim (Pankaj Tripathi), a Muslim auto rickshaw driver. Salim has also been trying to forget his past, his wife raped and burned to death by Hindu rioters in Gujarat. At first, Amit and Salim make uneasy travel companions. But, a journey of a thousand miles in an auto rickshaw has a way of breaking people together. On their journey, Amit and Salim forge an unforgettable friendship and help each other find the peace they both have been longing for.
